VOLUNTEER STAFF AT NATTJAZZ 2025

As a volunteer at Nattjazz, you are part of the festival’s hosting team. Our main task is to ensure that our guests—audience, musicians, and press—have a fantastic experience while attending Nattjazz. All staff members belong to different groups with specific tasks. Below is a brief overview of the various groups you can sign up for. More details and training will be provided before your shift. As a volunteer, you will always work under a responsible supervisor and be well taken care of throughout your shift. Everyone receives food and drinks while on duty.

On the registration form, you will be asked to select 3 groups you would like to work in. We cannot guarantee that everyone will get their first choice, but we will do our best to place you in one of the groups you prefer. All evening staff members should expect to work until the events are over and the venues are cleaned up. Some groups may have specific working hours, which will be communicated by your group leader.

Nattjazz is a unique festival when it comes to music opportunities: most people work 4 shifts and have 5 full days off with a free festival pass!

ABOUT THE GROUPS

FESTIVAL HOSTS - THE HEART OF THE FESTIVAL

Festival hosts are the largest group of volunteers at Nattjazz. You will perform several important tasks that are essential for maintaining the high standard Nattjazz is known for, including ticket control at the venues, preparation and cleaning, fire watch at emergency exits, and other service tasks. As a festival host, you’ll often get to enjoy a lot of music while on the job!

FLEXI HOSTS

Check this box if you: A. Are generally positive about all types of jobs, or B. Want to go above and beyond what's strictly necessary to get your festival pass. Those who want to "go the extra mile" or learn about all aspects of running a festival should select this category. If the Nattjazz vibe is more important than the specific job you do, this is where you belong. You will be contacted, and we will try to find a role that suits you! If you have something specific in mind, write it briefly in the comment section.

RIGGERS: FESTIVAL

Things need to be carried! Things need to be hung! Things need to be moved. Things need to be cleaned up! As a rigger you’ll help get the festival up and running, and also help packing it up afterward. This is a popular job for many as you’ll generally have free time throughout the festival itself. As a rigger, you will work under the group leader for Rigging and the group leader for Decorations. In this group, we move quickly and fix things wherever needed.

RIGGERS: STAGEHANDS

This is the job for someone who likes to pitch in but can also stand by patiently when needed. There will be heavy lifting at times and, at some points, intense periods of work, but also some waiting. We primarily want people with experience in stage and setup work, but we also need handy people with the ability to "see" work that needs doing and take initiative. You'll mostly work with technicians and musicians during setup and teardown of sound checks and concerts, and you’ll be available during concerts if anything happens. You may also help with picking up bands and equipment from the airport or similar. You’ll work 4 single shifts or, ideally, 2 double shifts, morning/evening and/or evening/night. Plenty of chances to enjoy music!

ARTIST SERVICE

ARTIST SERVICE - ARTIST HOSTS

As an artist host, you’ll work closely with the festival’s artists. Your role is something between a runner, an oracle and a concierge. This involves picking up and transporting artists to places like the airport, hotel, and venue. You will be the main contact for the artist during their stay in Bergen and make sure they have everything they need at the festival. A challenging and fun job!

ARTIST SERVICE - TRANSPORT/LOGISTICS

This group is responsible for all logistics at the festival and is coordinated with the Artist Service main desk. As a driver in the transport group, you’ll help the artist host with picking up and transporting musicians, as well as transporting equipment and supplies.

ARTIST SERVICE - HOSPITALITY/CATERING

The hospitality group at Nattjazz is widely known among musicians from around the world for their warmth and professionalism. You will prepare meals for all volunteers and ensure the artists’ dressing rooms are properly equipped with everything they need.

As mentioned above, there are also other jobs available at Nattjazz—remember: frivillig@nattjazz.no if you have questions! 😍
